Our first digital exhibit, The Mill Village in 1920, focuses on one historical moment in the Loray Mill and surrounding village. The year 1920 was an important one in the history of the mill and its community. An expansion of the mill’s capacity resulted in the mill village growing to more than 400 houses and thousands of residents. The community had health and education programs, neighborhood churches, and its own commercial district. This exhibit documents and visualizes a pivotal time in this community.
We continue our efforts to map, interpret, and understand life in the village and work in the mill. Check back here in coming months for expanded content and more exhibits.
